My name is Florian, I am 23 years old and I am from France.
As part of my studies I have to spend four months abroad with a company. For me, this was an opportunity to link my hospitality course with my passion, scuba diving! This all lead me to Divers Down UAE in Fujairah and I am now already halfway through my internship.
When I arrived in the UAE, I was certified as an Open Water Diver. Now I am busy studying to become a Divemaster. Being a PADI Divemaster will definitely be, for me, an achievement.
My work with Divers Down consists of helping the customers by giving them the correct equipment, by setting up their scuba gear, making their boat trip comfortable, guiding the guests underwater, and cleaning the equipment afterwards. I am now familiar with the scuba diving world.
Among the skills I have learnt is how to refill the tanks using an air compressor. This is something I am proud of.
Working here gives me the opportunity to meet amazing people from all over the world. The crazy and funny Filipino boat captains, the friendly South African instructors, and all the customers – they are Emiratis, expats or tourists, but they just want to enjoy a fun dive.
Helping customers realise their dream of diving Fujairah’s waters is a great feeling, and seeing the smile on their faces at the end of a dive fills me with happiness and pride. Being in such a cosmopolitan place is something unique for me and I am learning a lot by working with people from different places.
Diving here is also a real pleasure, even if the water was, in February, a little bit cold for my tastes (22°C being the coldest…). Now the water is getting warm and so in the air temperature, getting closer to 40°. But having the chance to spot barracuda, turtles, rays and sharks daily is for me the most amazing experience ever!
Moving from France to UAE has been a big challenge for me and I am now living my dream!
